  • Hello '08! This year will be an amazing one for sure, but before I go ahead with reflections for '08, here are a few things I learned in '07:

    1) If you want things to be simple and uncomplicated, you need to actively seek PEACE. Problems are part of the package of life but it is possible to lead a peaceful life in the midst of our troubles. Pray for peace - God listens!

    2) There can never be such a thing as too much JOY! Smiles & hugs all around, people! If you had seen me with a frown anytime in ’07, it means I was either hungry, sleepy or a combination of both. Seriously. Haha.

    3) “As I wait for you, maybe I’m made more FAITHful.” Thanks Brooke Fraser! Learning to wait and believe in the things that we don’t see - now that’s a true gift.

    4) RESPECT is so necessary in any relationship. It saves people from a ton of hurt when everyone is honest and open with each other now than later, trust me.

    5) “Everything You are to me, is everything I HOPE for.” (Music & lyrics c/o the counterpart, Dexter Suban) Sure I make my plans, and I do my best to make things happen, but ultimately everything I do i is God’s work, not mine. And because of that, I am secure in His promises for me.

    6) Nothing beats FAMILY life. Sometimes quality time is scarce but I’ll take excessive food over the holidays, random family Bright Nights trip, English and Tagalog DVD sets (a recent discovery by my parents) and board game madness with the siblings any day!

    7) LOVE is an action - and actions speak louder than words. It doesn’t matter how many talks I’ve given on love, or how many stories I’ve shared about my lack of love life (haha) - bottom line, if I have not loved anyone, I'm completely missing the point (and yes, this includes those the are most difficult to love)!
Good thing the CFC theme for '08 is LOVE - not only is it an awesome reminder, but it is also the first and greatest commandment. Thanks, Jesus!

So it begins, everyone. 2008=year of  . Woot woot, here we go! God bless!

  • Season's greetings!

    Merry Christmas everyone!

Yes, the greeting is a few days too late, but Christmas is a season (and not just merely a day), and so here's to a very joyful and blessed holiday season! yayyyyyy!

So here's the official family Christmas pic for 2007!

Yesterday was also the Feast of the Holy Family, which to me, is one of my favourite Church feasts. Since Christmas-time always brings families together, I always love how we are reminded of the beautiful example given to us by Joseph, Mary and the baby Jesus. They were all human. They experienced joy and pain. They were surrounded by people who loved them, but were probably also despised by many. And yet, in all their shortcomings and human-ness (haha ok that's a word I think I made up) they never forgot to LOVE. Just like other families they too were ordinary, but they loved in an extraordinary way.

As I look at my own family, it's evident that we're not perfect. But that's why families are given to us - so that through them, we can continue to grow in holiness.  Maybe for some of us, this holiday season meant being more patient with our siblings or  becoming more obedient towards our parents. Or maybe we realized how important it is to be less selfish and to think of others first before ourselves. And perhaps, for the rest of us the message this season was really a simple one: to LOVE  just like the Holy Family loved.

For the rest of the Christmas season, and for the new year ahead, I wish you and your families an awesome 2008 - may it be a year full of peace, joy and love!

  • First of all, Advent has officially begun so happy new (Church) year!

Secondly, Christmas is now only 22 days away. Can you believe it?! That's 22 more days to prepare our s for Jesus.

And finally... just in case you may not be having the best (Mon)day/week/month so far, I pray that "the joy of the Lord is your strength" (Neh 8:10).  This verse spoke volumes to me very recently after having lost a loved one in the family. I hope that this message blesses you too.

  • Happy apples!

Hi... I'm baaaaaaack! Many things to update so readers (if you're still here?!) please be a bit more patient cuz I haven't forgotten about you. Promise.

Anyway, I just wanted to share a quick story with everyone... actually I first heard this 10 years ago (ok fine, maybe 3.. haha) but God said I wasn't ready to digest this stuff at the time.. haha... so fastforward to 2007 and here it is:

“Women are like apples on trees, the best ones are on the top of the tree. The men don't want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and don't want to get hurt. Instead, they just get the rotten apples from the ground that aren't so good but easy. So, the apples at the top think something is wrong with them, when in reality they are amazing. They just have to wait for the right man to come along, the one who's brave enough to climb all the way to the top because they value quality.” -Anonymous

Thanks Toronto friends for these words of wisdom over wing night!   For all the great women out there, we need to realize how perfect we are in God's eyes and because we're made so awesome-ly we deserve to be treated with utmost respect. The sad thing is, some girls choose to have lowered expectations or some become impatient and voluntarily fall off the tree just so they can be picked easily, which I personally think is so dumb. There is no excuse for any woman to throw their standards out the window! Cuz really, why would you even set standards if you're only gonna settle with Mr-Good-for-Now, you know?

Anyway, my point is ladies, if a guy is not working hard to win your heart or he's not willing to find a way to climb that tree, then you might have a slight problem. Continue to sit up high at that top-most branch, just enough for him to see how high that tree really is! And then.. you wait............ I'm not too sure for how long, cuz I'm still waiting myself. Hahaha... All I know is that whoever it is that God is secretly preparing for me, he better have really strong arms and a great physique if he's gonna climb this really super tall mother of a tree.

To end off this blog, my last bit of advice for the waiting part is to choose to be happy while you wait! The happiest people are those who have great relationships. So cherish the time you have with friends and family. Happiness is not about money or fame, but it's about the people whom you've chosen to love and who love you back. They not only make the waiting game go by a lot faster but you'll notice you'll have tons of fun too! The end.

  • Reasons why I (and miss) home:
    •  BBQs with favourite friends (i.e. YFC family!)
      • Did you know that May is Nat'l BBQ month?! This means all-you-can-eat anything beef!
    • Ice-cream indulgence
      •  "Dibs" by Nestle = dessert of the moment (and quite possibly, of the year)
    • The siblings
      • A special mention must be noted about a message I received from Matthew. It goes something like this, "I saw Shrek 3.. you didn't.. HAHA [click]". What a brat! *sigh*

It's funny because this is actually one of the "shorter" trips I've taken, and yet it seems like I've been missing out on so much back home! However, God always affirms me that everything is fine and that HE has got things under control.. so I will just LET HIM take care of whatever has been left behind. (Oh, and besides, I will be home within 24 hours anyway, so yayy!?!)

But of course, by leaving Calgary I shall miss:
    • Tennis tournaments
      • The company was great, the matches were intense and the trash-talking friendly competition was fun!
    • Grey's Anatomy YFC fan club
      • DVD sets are the best... Ok so we're a little bit behind but I can't wait till Dex and I are fully caught up with this season.
    • Jakk-Jakk & Raf-Raf
      • These two definitely make it to the "cutest babies" hall of fame. Just look at them!

Really, it will only be a few weeks until I set foot in Cowtown yet again. But in the meantime, the schedule continues to be a busy one, with an upcoming trip to the Northwest Territories, graduations to attend, many leaders to empower, and lots of kids to play/serve with!

Plus did I mention Conference season is coming up? Yup... it's practically just right around the corner - KFC/YFC/CFC/SFC/HOLD. Summers should really be 4 months long for everyone! Eeeeeeeeeee... God bless us all!
